Customers
The US services have the following requirements over the next several decades: 

425 x MV-22A for the US Marne Corps (combat assault, assault support)
50 x CV-22A for the US Air Force (long-range special operations) 
•48 x HV-22A for the US Navy (combat search and rescue, special warfare,
 fleet logistic support)

Also, Bell/Boeing hope to sell 300 - 500 aircraft to international customers and 
develop special variants for another market potential of 330 - 630 Ospreys
The development of the V-22 Osprey began in the 80s. After near cancellation and 
total restructuring, the programme is now in an EMD phase lasting until 1999. 
Four new production representative prototypes have been built and will enter flight
 test during the first half of 1997. Deliveries of series aircraft due to start
 in mid-1999 for an IOC in 2001.
